Events: A Re-Cap of Fall 2013

While the WorkWell Campaign and participation in the Wellness Council of Wisconsin Summit was a highlight of the summer and fall calendar, Schroeder Solutions participated in other noteworthy events.

Up and Coming Lawyers: Each year Schroeder Solutions pays tribute to up-and-coming talent in the legal profession as a sponsor of Wisconsin Law Journal’s Up and Coming Lawyers event. Schroeder Solutions has been involved with a number of significant office projects for Milwaukee-area law and are proud to be a sponsor of this excellent event.

Heart Walk:  Schroeder Solutions was honored to be a part of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk this past September. We had two teams (blue and green) compete in a friendly competition to see who could raise the most money – and our efforts proved fruitful – we exceeded our goal!  We couldn’t be happier to help make a difference for such a worthy cause and we look forward to participating next year.

Kay Sargent – Change Management Event: And last, but certainly not least – we were pleased to host Kay Sargent, Teknion’s Vice President Architecture, Design and Workplace Strategies, on October 1st. We gathered for lunch and listened as Kay presented strategic insight on Change Management. Kay has developed an insight into the challenges facing organizations and their workplaces today. From the influence of technology and multiple generations in the workplace to time management and creating a space that supports health and wellness, the discussion revealed valuable data and insights that opened the eyes of the audience to a myriad of issues impacting workplace design. The office landscape is changing, and Kay helped the audience learn how to embrace that change and better plan for the future.

Waterstone Mortgage – Project Highlight

Over the past 5 years, Schroeder Solutions has served Waterstone Mortgage, an innovative mortgage lending company, by providing interior design, space planning, office furniture and relocation services.

Based on the growth of their organization, Waterstone Mortgage decided to consolidate four locations into one corporate headquarters in Pewaukee.  They partnered with Schroeder Solutions to design and furnish this new space.  Schroeder Solutions worked with their team, led by Eric Egenhoefer and Lisa Fenske, to provide the desired layouts and furnishings to meet their workplace objectives, and the installation and move services to meet their necessary timeline – all within budget.

“They recommended some incredibly productive workstation solutions, sit to stand private office furniture, conference room furniture to handle our state-of-the-art technology and café style elegance for the break room,” says Fenske. ” The result is a productive, collaborative and healthy office environment that provides a wonderful place to work!”

As the number of Waterstone Mortgage facilities continues to grow, Schroeder will continue to support their teams across the country.

Workplace Trends: #6 – Workstation with a view

When it comes to the facts, the fact is the effects of daylighting receives a lot of attention. This attention and research provides data that demonstrates, across industries and environments, the benefits of daylight on productivity.

  • Students achieved 25% higher grades on standardized tests
  • Retail sales increased per store
  • Office workers performed 10% to 25% better on tests of mental function and memory recall

And when it comes to sustainability, daylighting also receives significant attention. LEED for Commercial Interiors guidelines stresses access to daylight and views to the outdoors.

Daylight in the office

So, how can we design more daylight into our daily office life? From an architectural perspective, windows and skylights can provide a true connection to nature while also being part of energy-efficient design strategies. Incorporating glass architectural walls or wall and door details with glass panels, clerestory windows and sidelights can help light penetrate deeper into the core of the building.  When specifying furniture, selecting lower height panels and elevated furniture again increases access to natural light. Furthermore, the use of lighter colors and surface treatments that reflect light can also make the most of the available natural light. The impact of these strategies is not just about employee satisfaction, these planning decisions offer additional benefits, such as lower energy costs and enhanced employee productivity.

Isn’t it time we strive to give every employee a workstation with a view…or rather a workspace touched by natural light?
